There is nothing known as too much storage and you definitely would be aware of this if you happen to be a TiVo fanatic.
HP has revealed a partnership with TiVo and a novel application that lets one connect an HP MediaSmart server situated anywhere in your home network to the TiVo device and exchange content back and forth.
The TV content stored on the HP MediaSmart server could be watched on a Mac or Windows PC connected to the network.
These HP MediaSmart Servers could be utilized as central storage devices. They also automatically back up data from multiple computers across the home network.
The drives from MediaSmart are very capable of streaming music and videos to many other network devices, inclusive of iPods or Windows PCs and Mac.
The transfer of content between the server and TiVo is managed through the server’s Window’s Home Server Console
Some of the HP home servers that are compatible include the $549 HP MediaSmart EX490 that has an 1TB hard disk and a 64-bit 2.2 GHz Celeron processor; the $699 MediaSmart X495 that comes with a 64-bit, 2.5 GHz Dual Core Pentium processor as well as a 1.5 TB drive.
The simple and easy set up and connect facilitated in the Network-attached storage (NAS) devices have rendered it popular for small business and home networks. Also the fact that these could be centrally located or in a secure place has made it even more exciting
The Ti-Vo devices, similar to the TiVo Premiere and Premiere XL which were recently announced, enable the recording, rewinding and pausing of live TV broadcasts.
The HP MediaSmart Expander for TiVo is freely available through the Windows Home Server Console on the MediaSmart server.
