The Google TV project created many Android-based speculations, but the intent of the search giant is more collaborative than combative in terms of the existing players who are already in the satellite/cable game. There is a speculation that Google’s TV box will not replaces the set-top boxes that already exist but it will sit alongside by daisy chaining it with the HDTV.

Google contemplates a new strategy for the set-top box. With the help of HDMI connections, the existing set top box is daisy chained with Google’s set-top box. That is, the HDMI output of the MVPD’s set-top will be connected to HDMI input of Google TV’s set-top. Then the HDMI output will be finally connected to the TV. Additionally, it provides new features like browsing and searching channels. A host of interactive web capabilities will also be added.

Via wired Ethernet or WIFI Google TV box connects to the internet. Along with full browsing, it also pulls in videos from YouTube or other websites. It is expected that Sony will manufacture this set-top box. But it will run Google’s chrome browser and Android and comes with a Google branding.

The price of this Google TV box will be approximately $299. But the satellite and cable companies are asked to lease it as an add-on package to their customers. By paying an additional $10-15/month you can access the Internet. It is expected that the providers most probably will accept this because of the internet functionality, which is difficult if they implement on their own.
