You read it right.  A new musical video game is in creation for the gaming market.  This new game was first announced yesterday at the Game Developers Conference.  The name of the game?  Power Gig: Rise of the SixString.

Weird name, right?  Well, not so much when you look into the details.  Rather than the gamer using a fake plastic guitar with buttons to press for each chord, the player uses a bona fide guitar that has six strings.  It is a fully functional real guitar and you can use to play the game as well as outside of the game in real life – such as for your friends, in a bar, or at an event.

The developer of this high-end game is Seven45 Studios.  Seven45 Studios is a branched company of FirstAct, which is a musical instrument manufacturer leader in terms of basses, guitars, and other musical equipment that is available for purchase at local retail stores such as Target and Wal-Mart.

The company says that there will be high-end versions of the guitar as well as a smaller scale of the entry-level guitars for children.  These guitars will be able to connect with any guitar amp, thus the reality of the whole thing if you still haven’t caught on.  This means you can use the entry-level guitar not only for the game, but to play your own music as well as mentioned above.

This new and improved guitar game, Power Gig: Rise of the SixString is currently scheduled to hit the market for the Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime this fall.  The game will consist of the fully functional real-life guitars, drums, and a microphone.  It is also said to be compatible with current Guitar Hero and Rock Band games.  Best of all, the price will be about the same as current guitar games, according to Seven45 Studios – but don’t hold your breath because the price isn’t official just yet.

I play Acoustic and plan on buying an electric used Les Paul very soon.
I also own games such as Rock Band. I think this idea is something a lot of gamers want to see. Simple pressing coloured buttons in a row is fine, but if you think you have excellent hand eye coordination now, wait til this is out. I’m most certain that this will be way more challenging. This is taking it to the next level. Looking at the guitar for this game makes me wonder….are we able to connect to a real amp? Lol

Will the games/guitar actually use the correct notes/string/fret positions for every note that is required in a song? Or is it pseudo “Guitar Hero” positioning using colors?
