If recall the most popular existing games you can note that the quite a majority of them allow to create personal relationship with the games. It means that among general functions of the game, the gamers can enjoy the opportunity of creating the image that he or she desires. So to say you can spend some more time playing and can get much more pleasure creating the ideal (to your mind) look of your hero. But of course, not all the gamers are crazy about the customization features. Some of them can really ignore features preferring game skills and statistical data.
Brink from Splash Damage and Bethesda Softworks is the type of the game that gives the ‘classic’ way without any customization features. It will not be interesting for the females who are used to play in the own female role. The only opportunity the game gives is to play as a male. As a result the game does not provide the female gamers with the ‘personal woman experience’.
The questions are the following: Why does a man is the main hero of the game? Is it created only for males? Trying to answer to these questions we have asked a technical artist who was involved into the game production. As he claimed, Splash Damage’s Brink was made in such a mode because of the practical decisions. Aesthetics or vitalness of the game was not on the agenda but the game production. The gender characteristic such as the definite shape and size of the body were not the determinative features.
The main attention was put on the graphics and the coherence of the things and the surrounding. The creators’ priority was the customization options of high quality that were created for a male hero rather than the options for both male and female but of poorer quality.
The problem was the following: if create the heroes of females they had to be of the same width and height as the male ones. Otherwise there were mistakes with visibility or hit detection. But naturally women are smaller and slimmer than men and have more clothing options. So in order not to exaggerate the proportions and to make the game more real, it was chosen that the main hero of Splash Damage’s Brink will be a man.

Heroes is ok for people who want to see great special effects and cliffhangers on every episode. Heroes, when it first came out, was nothing short of amazing. loved the idea of ordinary people with extra-ordinary abilities!
