The Saboteur is a third person action-adventure game that has been developed by Pandemic Studios. The action of the game takes place during World War II in Paris. So the game is dedicated to the resistance in the French capital.
Being in the role of protagonist named Sean Devlin, an Irish racing driver turned anti-Nazi vigilante out to avenge his best friend’s death. The main hero looks like a real soldier: he is a single, very angry, sociopathic man smoking one cigarette after another. The environment of the city also looks quite realistic: the gamer has a rather large map of Paris and the outlying areas to explore. And you are free to explore and to do something you desire. You can scale the walls, stalk along rooftops, sneak in the shadows to infiltrate Nazi compounds, steal the cars, make fool of SS officers and many other things like that.
The most pleasant thing about the game is this right of the choice. The player is a boss and can decide whether to be occupied in the central plot-advancing missions, to follow some side quests, or just wander above the city in a style of Grand Theft Auto, deciding what cars can be stolen and what jumps and tricks can be performed. There are a lot of things just for amusing in the game.
The game is very colorful and vivid. The Parisian world is divided to be occupied by the Nazis and free. The first condition is underlined by gloomy colors, the black and white world with constant thunderstorms, while the free part of the city is colorful and noisy. This visual style is rather effective and cinematic.
To tell you the truth, the game has also its fall-downs. There are some moments when its mechanics are flawed, and some of the game situations are not believable.
However, the advantages of The Saboteur overweigh the disadvantages and the game is rather popular.
