Sony has finally introduced a motion controller for the PS3 at the Game Developers Conference of 2010 in San Francisco. If you ask me, I anticipated on this being further developed by now because it was first introduced almost an entire year ago.
Sony’s motion controller is known as the Playstation Move. Perfect fit. This controller will also come with a controller similar to that of the Nunchuk on the Wii. There will be a Playstation eye camera that will detect the movement and whereabouts of the Move controller. The actual Move controller looks similar to that of a microphone with a glowing top.
Sony executives promise a similar experience to that of the Wii, so if you have a Wii and love it, then you will probably love what Sony is offering…especially if you already have a PS3 console. It will add a bit of “oomph” to your playing experience from now on.
But Sony is going to have to be on the look-out a bit as Microsoft’s motion technology is coming out sometime this year as well – nearing the end of the year more than likely. Microsoft’s Natal is to actually use the entire body as the controller, which will probably not properly distinguish slight movements as the Move controller will, so there may not be that much competition here.
The Move controller is compatible with some already on the market games such as SOCOM 4, LittleBigPlanet, and Move Party, which is a game that will have several mini-games that the Move controller will be compatible with. Sony has been able to enlist a large group of developers that will support this new motion controller. You can expect to see games from developers such as Capcom, Warner Bros. as well as Electronic Arts. You can rest assured that if you choose to take part in the Move, that you will have a variety of games to choose from.
Sony will begin selling the Move controller separately as well as in a bundle with the eye camera and a compatible game. Prices are not official as of yet, but Sony’s current plan is to offer the bundle for around $100. Expect to see this controller and bundles available sometime this current fall.
Will Wii be able to withstand the pressure for both Sony and Microsoft? Will Sony push forward with their new Move controller for the PS3? Or will Microsoft take over with their Project Natal? Who will be able to survive the longest? What do you guys think?
