Samsung debuted the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the smaller Galaxy Tab 8.9 at the CTIA in Orlando today. The two tablets, which run on the Android 3.0 operating system, are expected to give the new iPad 2 a run for its money. Both devices also have 1GHz dual-core Hummingbird ARM processors.
The Galaxy 10.1 is due out on June 8. It comes in a 16 GB version with WiFi that is expected to cost $499 and the 32GB version is expected to cost $599. While that is similar to the cost of the Apple iPad 2, but the 10.1 has some features the iPad 2 doesn’t.
First, it has a somewhat larger screen, a 1280x800pixel display verus the iPad 2’s 1024×768. In addition, it features a 3 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera, while the iPad’s cameras are both sub megapixel. It’s also a bit thinner than the iPad 2 (8.6mm versus 8.8 mm) and has twice as much RAM since it has 1 GB, while the Apple iPad 2 has only 512 MB.
The smaller 8.9 inch Tab is expected to cost $469 for the 16GB model and $569 for the 32BG model. There wasn’t a date put out for its release, but it is expected to be released by sometime this summer.
