The reception of the new Microsoft HP Tablet didn’t seem to be as good as what CEO Steve Ballmer had hoped for. With the unveiling of this new computing prospect at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas there was hopes that the new Tablet would end up reviving what seems to be a slowing down of consumer support for Microsoft. Unfortunately, the crowd, while initially behind the unveiling, walked away a little downhearted as the new Tablet just didn’t seem to be all it was hyped up to be.
Instead of getting a look at what people had hoped was the dual screen tablet that Microsoft was working on last year, they got the single screen tablet that is almost small enough to be as portable as, say, a cell phone but running a much better processor which makes it as powerful as a common desktop. In fact, this tablet even runs Windows 7 on it, so it is essentially just a computer without a keyboard or mouse that you can carry around with you. Lighter than a laptop but with no disk drives as to save your information.
Although the new Tablet is something that a lot of people are looking forward to, the upset for the review of this tablet seems to have pushed people closer to the highly anticipated and almost mythical Apple Tablet that is still only a rumor. If Microsoft can pull something at the last minute to make this an unbeatable technological advance, then there might still be some hope for a company that touts itself as being a company based on what its consumers want. Just look at the new Windows 7 commercials on television to get an understanding of how they want people to perceive them. There is still hope, though, as this isn’t due to be released until mid 2010.
