The HTC Evo 4G was released to much fanfare a few weeks ago. It is now getting a very desirable upgrade. The programs are going to operate much faster thanks to a new Android system. You should take a look at this if you like the HTC Evo and Android.
People were standing in line overnight and stores were running out of product for the HTC Evo 4G. Now, the same smartphone is getting the next Android operating system. The Evo was already fast with its 1000 megahertz processor. The upgrade to Android 2.2 ( nicknamed “Froyo” ) has the potential to make the Evo scream about four times faster. This means if you thought the Evo was fast before, just wait for this next Froyo update, you may end up selling your PC. The apps that are installed on the smartphone should receive much of the uptick in speed. They will be from two to five times faster than they were with Android 2.1. The browser, which is already one of the top mobile browsers, will also be able to handle the latest Flash files. This will mark a difference in Android and the iOS4 Apple system. The latest Apple smartphones do not support Flash files.
Thanks to Sprint, the company who provides many of the sales for the HTC Evo, August 3 will be the rollout date for Froyo. The first notice for HTC Evo users will continue this month. All who have this smartphone should get their notice by the middle of the month on the Sprint network. The update is accomplished in waves and not all at one time.
How much faster will the HTC Evo be ? If tests on other Android smartphones are any indicator, it will be somwhere over four times faster. The Linpack test has been used for years to test the speed of computers around the world. If you are unfamiliar with Linpack, just consider it another application specifically designed to test the “guts” of the Android operating system. Linpack tests have been accomplished on the “Google Phone” ( Nexus One ) with Android 2.2 installed. It ouputs its test as simple numbers, with the higher scores being superior. When running a predetermined test calculation, the operating system is tested moreso than the processor speed. The results of the test showed the Android 2.1 system with a score of 6.5 to 6.7 MFLOPS. Hold on to your hats ! The Android 2.2 system got a score of 37.593 MFLOPS ! Remember, the HTC Evo has the same processor as the Nexus One.
If you own an HTC Evo, good for you. It has great multimedia powers and can even hook up to a television or other display with its included HDMI connector. Now it is not just fast, it is going to be “screaming” fast. If you happen to not get the Froyo update on the first release date for the Evo, do not be alarmed. The Froyo update is rollled out gradually to those who are on the Sprint carrier until the middle of the month. If you do not have your update by the third week in August, give Sprint a call.

Just updated and omg you can really tell how much faster the phone is working. This is so awesome!
Just updated my Evo. Been waiting for this for a while.
Can’t wait to unleash it’s full power!!!
It is a big difference from 2.1 loving froyo right now!
Updated about 3 hours ago. They are NOT exaggerating when they talk about the speed increase…its like I just got a new, screaming fast EVO! I’ve been playing non stop for the last 3 hours and finally had to recharge but this is considering that I downloaded Froyo OTA from 1/2 battery and I’ve had the screen on since then. Is this my perception or did they address the battery issue because before the update I’d have been DOA after an hour of heavy use.
That’s not even an exaggeration! The phone was fast before, but FroYo makes it incredibly quick and responsive. And though they haven’t inspired the FPS, it seems much more fluid when doing everything.
Also, tested with some games and everything is runing better. Flash is surprisingly good, and perfect when toggled as needed. It may nit be perfect, But at least we have the option if we want it…
My EVO is definitely more responsive–most notable is the browser rendering time improvement. Hopefully more efficient code will help with the so-so battery life. Now bring on Gingerbread!
My pandora is not performing the way it used to. the sound quality is very poor even when I use the high quality option.
If FROYO Android 2.2 is going to make the EVO4G 5 x’s faster what will it do to Verizon’s Motorola Droid X, they are supposedly slated to get 2.2 Froyo next week
