In one of my previous articles I had written about the Android and why it was so very popular. Well, ever since the android OS made its way into the market, many manufacturers have turned to this OS; Android made heads turn with its entry into the mobile phone market…it’s entry into other markets is not so distant. This product proves it. Take a look.
Dell, one of the leading computer manufacturers is planning to release its new tablet – the Dell Mini 5. The prototype of the tablet looks stylish, slim and is expected to be shipped later this year.
Dell has released a prototype version that runs on the Android Donut – version 1.6 but has promised to unveil its product with a new version of the Android Operating system. There was speculation earlier that dell would be entering into the arena with a new product; however no official announcements were made – Dell has now gone on to reveal its latest innovation at the Las Vegas Electronics show.
The new tablet, powered by a Snapdragon ARM microprocessor, runs at a clock speed of 1Ghz. The display which is 5 inches (13 cm) long, is touch screen based and comes equipped with two 5 megapixel dual-flash cameras. This hybrid model (it comes equipped with 3G technology, so it can be doubled up as a mobile phone as well) has capacitative touch buttons, meaning they are pressure sensitive and are extremely sensitive to touch.
The prototype ran on a 405 MB DRAM and the storage medium (flash memory?) is expected to be of a generous quantity. It is however evident from the 2 micro SD slots provided that additional storage memory can be fitted and expanded. Initial reports claim that it is a “mobile internet device” with full support for wifi, HSPA on WCDMA along with EDGE all on similar frequencies. If reports are to be believed, Dell is also making it Flash friendly – support for Adobe’s flash platform is perceived in this device.
The device with 3G features, WiFi support,Bluetooth and GPS comes is expected to be rolled out in the US with AT&T providing carrier support. The device is expensive though, and is expected to cost at least 1000$ – but with models offering similar features, the pertinent question therefore is whether the price is worth the product- the answer for which would be told when the product hits the market.

At last a smartphone men can hold. Enough of those ‘small’ phones. I couldn’t even hold Nokia N71/72 properly .. kept slipping. This, i.e., 5 inches will be ideal for most guys and many women as well. Thank god somebody got it
Nice specs to go as well. Hopefully CALL QUALITY and SPEAKERPHONE + SMS’n is fluid on this .. its very important for a phone to behave like one, if Dell Mini 5 is touted as a phone also, & then the rest of the tablety thingys (all of the above) can follow. Lets hope they score well as a phone first. If not then its a goner.
