Android Based Tablet – The Adam

Apple recently launched its own version of the tablet computer, similar in functionality to the other apple products – the iPhone and the iPod touch. Now, Notion Ink has announced the launch of its android based tablet – the Adam. It is expected to provide stiff competition to the iPad and has decent features that will look to break the strong “Apple brand” bastion.

The tablet computer, Adam – is a very crafty handiwork. It is a neat gadget with sleek looks. It is very stylish. It weighs a tad more than the iPad at 1.7 pounds as opposed to the 1.5 pound model rolled out by apple. Measuring 6.3 x 9.8 x 0.6 inches, it was officially unveiled at the world mobile congress techno fest held recently in Barcelona.

The tablet has features that can match the specifications provided by Apple’s iPad. It is based on NVIDIA’s tegra 2 architecture for tablet pc’s. It is powered by the Dual core ARM cortex A9 CPU, clocking 1GHz. The 10.1 inch pixelQI display looks to provide a maximum resolution of up to 1024 x 600 pels. It also promises variety – an inbuilt e-paper mode and a transreflective mode are also built-in to this device allowing it to be used in normal sunlight as well.

The most important factor however is power. This gadget supposedly provides greater battery life when compared to the iPad – at least 16 hours of support without any recharge. This range can increase up to 160 hours if the backlight is turned off.

Additional features include support for Bluetooth, an inbuilt 3 mega pixel camera that has autofocussing capabilities, connectivity of up to 3 USB based devices; seamless wi-fi connectivity is also expected to be added on.

The brilliant use of an open source platform like the android is another plus with respect to this tablet pc. Multiple operating systems can be loaded into this gadget – it supports UNIX, Linux and Google’s android. The tablet pc is also 3G enabled.

One significant add-on – the adobe flash player 10.1; this is added on to the system, enabling good multimedia support while browsing the internet. The 3 Meg camera has a 180 degree swiveling feature enabling the user to take decent panoramic photographs.

It has brilliant features, complies with industry level specifications and is expected to roll out by the end of April. It certainly will be one gadget to watch out for!!!

This seems very promising. I am interested to see which way the people will go…iPad or Adam. I am personaly an android fan so I will try this device out before I decide between this and the iPad. One qouestion that comes to mid is if this is 3G and bluetooth enabled, can I use it to make telephone calls?
I cant wait to test this out!

Now everyone is in the same bandwagon as Apple, let’s see what’s install before buying. This can be beneficial to consumers…

Notion Ink announced their product at CES 0210 (january 10th), apple announced their product on jan. 27. this device is not trying to copy apple. It also has alot of features that apple’s IPad is lacking. Features we use in 2010, like adobe Flash, HDMI, USB inputs, Camera. Adobe Air is looking very interesting too. I am not sure if you can download apps from the android market place with most android tablets (google only allow devices with screens smaller than 7 inches). BUT as with any other android devices, you can download apps via the web and install. There have been many android tablet prototypes way before any apple tablet devices were even leaked. We are finally at the time where technology is meeting up with our imaginations. Screen are getting thinner and processor technology are getting smaller allowing for a more compact device. Many new screen and processor are made to use less power allowing for longer battery life allowing for mobile use. Microsoft has also been working on their tablet (courier) for about 2 years now. the Microsoft tablet will be running a completely new OS. HP will also have a tablet with win7 this year (HP Slate). With the HP device, all of you old PC hardware (wireless printers, bluetooth keyboard, wireless web cams) can work with it without any issues. Win7 also allows for wifi syncing, so you won’t ever need to connect the HP device to a PC to add movies or music, or to transfer your pics from the Slate to your PC. All done the second you get home and connect to your wifi. Microsoft has just announce that silverlight will be the way developers can program for their new mobile OS. All silver light apps will be available for the Slate plus the millions of programs already available for windows.

Once again the tech world fails to understand how real consumers think. Geeks are a very small subset of the population at large, yet unsurprisingly, 99% of gadgets pander directly to them at the expense of the much larger market that is everyone else.

I find it interesting how far techies have their heads up their own backsides on these issues. The tech in this tablet is impressive, but impressive tech matters not at all to someone who wants to get to facebook.

I think the iPad is going to destroy the PC market. That is the desktop market. The iPad is not a mobile device, and I’m not sure apple even gets this yet. I’m already suggesting to people they buy an iPad instead of a new computer. It does everything the basic consumer needs, that is it surfs the net and handles media, and it won’t confuse them with archaic things like the need to know what a file is.

In short: Most people pick simple over powerful. Most geeks pick control over simplicity. This dichotomy will come back to haunt the techies and their industry. Mark my words.

As the masses flock towards Apple, who is indeed leading the pack with the iPad we must understand what is taking place.
This technology is making life easier.
Historically, the largest consumer market for technology has been the SLACKER. In other words the LAZY BUM. The person who desires to get the MOST accomplished with the LEAST effort….and look good while doing it (not doing it).
With that in mind, I assert that the Slacker pool is large enough for iPad and Adam to coexist, harmoniously.
I applaud these technology companies for the work they do because it serve to keep people in their proper station. As the slackers procreate (mentally and academically) we will witness a technological shift. A beautiful return to the way things were. If you don’t believe me, copy and paste this post on to your Adam or iPad and revisit it after a few years…by then you will be on your 4th generation iPad.
The term user friendly has come to mean idiot friendly as a 4 year old can navigate the iPad’s OS.
….Sorry, let me get back to the shift:
When our choices in computing were limited to PC and Mac; and the landscape was littered with bugs and viruses there was once a true need for Technicians…I know because I was one of those technicians.
Unfortunately, technology has been answering the call instead of allowing the Technicians to make a buck. Everything has become idiot/user friendly (even the windows registry). As User Friendly became Idiot Friendly…Users became Idiots..idiots who don’t need me to repair their divices.
I am anticipating a shift back to a time where the end users know how to swipe their finger across a touch screen, click the mouse, and turn on a web cam. I am anticipating that as a result of technology making computing so idiot friendly, the idiots will become idiots again and computer literate will mean “I know how to download an app”. The idiots will become less interested with the inner workings the machine and the true stars of our era, THE TECHNICIANS, will once again shine. And make a buck or two while shining.

    Anybody relate?????????????????
