The rumors are already running rampant about the soon to be debuted iPhone 5 by Apple and whether or not it will have NFC capability. The iPhone is thought to be coming out sometime next year.
NFC stands for Near Field Communication, and it can be used like a credit card to pay for things with merely a swipe of the phone if the business has the capability of taking that sort of payment. Some reports tout it as the next big thing in technologies used to pay for items.
Apple says the phone isn’t going to have the NFC technology because there isn’t a standard for it as yet. A report says that Apple is developing its own version of NFC that would be connected somehow via iTunes.
Some enthusiasts say that NFC is the next big thing technologically, and Google has indeed put a version of NFC in their Android Nexus S. RIM, too, plans to put NFC in their new Blackberry devices sometime later this year.
Although Apple says it won’t put NFC in the iPhone 5, some insiders say they will. The insider swears that he was told by manufacturers that they also expect it to have the NFC technology installed.
The insiders say that it’s likely also because Apple would profit from the more than 200 million iTunes accounts that could be connected to the NFC in their phones.
Only time will tell if the iPhone 5 comes equipped with some form of NFC pay technology, and no one will know until the Apple WWDC 2011 Keynote Address in June when the iPhone 5 may be debuted.
