iPhone 5 Could Be Delayed

Rumors abound about when the upcoming iPhone 5 will be released to the public. In the past, other releases of iPhones were usually in June or July.

The first iPhone came out on June 28, 2007, the iPhone 3G came out July 11, 2008, the 3GS on June 8, 2009 and the latest iPhone 4 on June 24, 2010. These release dates show that Apple usually likes to put out its new gadgets in a pattern of either June or July release dates.

However, rumors now say the release of the new iPhone 5 may fall out of that pattern and be later than usual.

The Apple World Wide Developers Conference runs June 6-10 and potential customers had thought the iPhone 5 would come out then. This would have been logical, since in the past the new iPhone releases corresponded with this conference.

Apple has suggested that there will be an iOS preview of a new OS at the conference, but hasn’t said a thing about the iPhone 5. The new iOS was supposed to be related to the release of the iPhone 5, but now this may not happen.

One interesting note is that the new Verizon iPhone was released only six months before it was thought the iPhone 5 would be relased.  The Verizon phone works with the iOS 4.2.6 operating system and not the newer iOS 4.3.1.

To some analysts it seems strange that the releases of the iPhone 5 could be delayed while the iPhone 4 model came out. Speculation makes one wonder why they would schedule two media events, one for my retirement and one for other activities.

While everything is still in the air, the best case scenario is if the iPhone 5 comes out during the June 6-10 conference. Only time will tell if this is what occurs.
