Apple has released a lot of great products in their time. They hooked America on home computing in the eighties with their line of Macintosh computers and in the new century, they have people hooked on two different types of mobile devices. The IPod, an MP3 player, and the IPhone, a cell phone that is almost like a mini computer. Now they have decided to step it up a notch one more time, by delivering a new type of computing experience in peoples lives. They are releasing a new device called the IPad. They are promising that it will make tablet computing easier for the masses. With it’s touch screen and smooth interface, it does look like something that the public will enjoy. The question is now, will you need one?
Since it is not out yet, this may be a question that you haven’t asked yourself. But since there has been a massive ad campaign behind the device, there is a good chance that you have been exposed to it. Some people are saying that it is nothing but an overgrown IPhone. But to those that have used it, they are all giving it rave reviews. They say that the feel of the device is perfect and that the multi touch screen interface is a natural feel for anyone who has an IPhone. There are some drawback to the device such as no multi tasking, and no USB access, but overall people have been giving the device, after they have used it, a thumbs up.
There are a lot of geeks that will love to have this in their living room, but will it appeal to the average person. Some claim that it will eliminate the need for carrying around a heavy laptop with you. But that problem seems to have been solved with both the Apple Air and the new netbooks that have been flying off the shelves. Also, people say that the interactive content that will come for the device will be worth purchasing it alone. You will be able to interact with content like never before. I can see how this would be the case but it is still up in the air whether the content providers will be able to come through on their end. Yes, the device will be perfect for new and innovative stuff but will the content providers be imaginative enough to make it. Unfortunately, Apple can not control the whole process.
For what it has been advertised for, if you are person that indulges in a lot of media content on their computer, then this device looks like it will be for you. If you are a person that does a lot of work on their computer, then you might want to avoid purchasing it. Or at least, have this and a normal laptop around.
