According to a Wall Street Journal announcement, the iPad2 is finally in production and will come out shortly.
Based on information received from those known to be familiar with the product, the iPad2 will be thinner, weight less, and have a quicker processor, a camera and more memory. The screen resolution, though, isn’t expected to be much better than the original iPad.
It’s not Earth shattering news that the iPad 2 is finally on its way, but Apple does have a reliable history of doing a one year update on some of their products. The very first iPad was sold as of last April, so it’s logical that the iPad2 is coming out by then.
Apple does, however, have a history of unconfirmed rumors. News media from Reuters claimed they saw one of the new iPad2s during the launch of the News Corp.’s iPad-only newspaper, The Daily.
Plus, iPad accessory manufacturers too have given fuel to the rumors, with many of the companies putting out cases with features such as an opening for a camera (which the first iPad doesn’t have) and a space for a larger speaker. However, potential buyers should take these announcements with a little caution. Apple almost never speaks about rumors. So, it’s not a surprise that no one from Apple would talk about the WSJ report.
The iPad has been the top selling tablet computer on today’s market, and has sold 14.8 million units since it came out nine months ago, said Apple. iPad sales have made up 17 percent of Apple’s revenue during the last quarter, equaling $4.6 billion, according to an earnings report that came out recently.
