Apple’s Bumper Solution Could Cost $175 Million

“AntennaGate” is still in the news and Apple must now make good for the mistake that is keeping iPhone users on edge when their phones lose reception.  There is always a temporary fix, but why wasn’t this fixed BEFORE the phone went on sale?  The fix, of course, was a plastic bumper that fit around the iPhone and kept your hand from disturbing the antenna signal.

Giving away this free “bumper”, going to cost the company about $175 million.  The cost, which will be spread out amoung a couple financial quarters, is much, much less than if Apple required a recall of the just released iPhone 4.  According to TechDigest, a total recall would cost Apple about $1.5 billion.

The bumper, in fact, was already on the market as an item you could purchase, but Apple has removed them from the market so they have enough of the bumpers to send to customers at their request.  Since Apple knows they will not be able to provide users with the original bumper, the iPhone users will be given a choice as to whether they want an original or a 3rd party bumper.

If you need a bumper you should look into one quickly since the free bumper deal is only available until September 30th.  iPhones that are sold after that date might have some other solution for the poor reception while holding the phone.  Apple has not commented on that as of yet.

I can not understand all the big problems. I mean really almost every smartphone has some connections problems if it isn’t properly in the hand. But I still think Apple should do something for the best smartphone ever. But I guess they will rather make an iPhone 5 to earn some more money.
