Apple TV Hacked to Run iPad Apps at Full Screen

Apple TV is an iOS device and two developers for the platform came up with a hack that would allow a 2nd generation Apple TV to run iOS apps at full screen. TheMudKip and Steven Troughton-Smith came out with the solution but they would not release it to the public just yet. Apple TV

No instructions were given as to how to run iOS apps on Apple TV. The two developers are still ironing out the bugs. But once they solved the problems, it could easily be integrated into future jailbreaks that would include custom apps.

The Apple TV uses a modified version of the iOS and the second generation units have an A4 processor. That’s the same chip found in the iPhone 4, iPad and fourth-generation iPod Touch. TheMudKip laid the foundation and designed a custom home screen for the Apple TV. Troughton-Smith then made apps that would run at fill-screen 720p resolution. Apps include YouTube, Grace, Facebook, and FaceTime.

The jailbroken Apple TV would run apps at full screen but at the early stages of the project the apps ran in small iPhone-oriented windows. The apps could be maximized to take up the whole screen or minimized for easy management of different apps.
