Nintendo President on Declining WII Sales and the WII U

Nintendo is set to release the Wii U, which is the upgrade of its Wii video game console. The Wii U has already built a lot of hype while at the same time the company is facing a lot of questions with regards to the declining sales of its current gaming system.

The Will sold 4.5 million units in the United States in 2001, which is down from 7 million in 2010. The 3DS started out slow when it was launched in March. It sold a total of 4 million units in the United States by the end of 2011. It hit the mark faster than the Wii when it was launched in 2006.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said that he doesn’t see the decline of Wii sales as something negative. He said that it is a positive leading into the release of the upcoming Wii U. He added that the Wii is found in 40 million homes in the United States and in terms of penetration, it has already peaked in terms of total number of consoles sold. That is the reason why Nintendo is preparing for the launch of the Wii U.

The Wii U will still use the motion-sensing controller system of the Wii but it would introduce a tablet-like controller with 6 inch touchscreen. There are people who said that the new controller is a brilliant idea but there are others who predict that it would fail.
